The approach focuses on preserving the existing structure’s historical character while introducing contemporary urban living standards, seamlessly blending the building’s spiritual and historical significance with modern functionality.
Key features include the retention of the original masonry, window proportions, and structural grid, alongside the addition of two modern upper floors crafted with sustainable materials.

PRESERVING HERITAGE, EMBRACING SUSTAINABILITY
The Wilcox Lofts project at 2003 Wilcox Blvd transforms the existing Cathedral of Praise Urban Ministries Center, a historic church, into a vibrant residential community for young people and new families. The design preserves the building’s historic charm by retaining its iconic masonry, window proportions, and structural framework, honoring Chattanooga’s heritage.
Two modern upper floors, built with sustainable materials like metal and glass, are set back to complement the original structure while adding efficient, light-filled living spaces. The project incorporates greenery through native landscaping, enhancing its eco-friendly appeal and creating a sustainable aesthetic.
